Established in 2012, City University (CU) is a Not-For-Profit foundation university located in Mogadishu, Somalia that is pioneering quality instruction, research, and service to society.
CU practices selective admissions through an entrance exam equivalent to an accredited secondary school. Merit scholarships are also given based on student test scores.
Types of Scholarships (Merit, Need, Employee, Sponsored & Special Scholarships)
All students accepted for enrollment at City may apply for the scholarships listed below. Current student receive between 25% to a maximum of 70% of scholarships or discounts to help with the cost of their education. Tuition-waiver scholarships are valid for up to 5 years of undergraduate education, provided the student maintains the conditions to continue the scholarship. The following are the available scholarships:
City University Entrance Examination – Merit Scholarships
The most significant number of current City University students with full or partial scholarships received these scholarships due to their scores in the CU Entrance Examination. These scholarships are awarded yearly based on student performance in the entrance examinations. Many of our students have graduated from the City University of Mogadishu without paying any tuition during their four years of studies based solely on their performance.
Employee Children Scholarships
The children of City University employees who study at CU are entitled to the following discounts:
Please note that there is no discount for the pre-university foundations program or university fees. Scholarship and discounts may not be combined with any other scholarship at CU. Students who benefit from this scholarship are also expected to maintain the conditions for continuing the scholarship enumerated below.
Need-Based Scholarships
City University also provides a limited number of need-based scholarships with varying degrees of discount. Students who pass the CU Entrance Exam may apply.
Sponsored Scholarships

Scholarship Benefits & Foundation Studies: All students granted scholarships for a degree program must still pay for the cost of their foundation program.
Combining Scholarships & Other Discounts: Students who are eligible for more than one scholarship or a scholarship and a discount must choose one of the benefits being offered but may not combine them. Tuition waivers and discounts take effect on the first semester of a degree program and do not apply to the Foundations Program.
Conditions for the Continuation of Scholarship:
Scholarships offered to students at City University will continue for the duration of their undergraduate study (up to five years), provided the following conditions are met:
